Billi Terresa Cowden Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Waggoner Center for Alcohol and Addiction Research is pleased to announce the Billi Terresa Cowden Postdoctoral Fellowship, designed to support postdoctoral fellows investigating consequences of alcohol use and others substances. This fellowship will cover 50% of the salary and fringe benefits for selected awardees in fiscal year 2024-2025. In addition, awardees will receive an annual $2,000 travel allowance.

This is a one year fellowship with a possibility of a second year contingent on satisfactory progress. An individual can be awarded for a maximum of two years.

Eligibility criteria

  • Current appointment as a Postdoctoral Fellow at UT Austin with an upcoming appointment for FY 24-25. 
  • Research focused on clinical or preclinical studies related to mechanisms of drug action, neuroadaptation to repeated substance use, treatment, outcomes, or risk factors (e.g. genetic, comorbid mental illness, early life trauma, family factors, PTSD).

  2. Statement: 1-2 page document that includes:
    1. Description of your proposed research for the upcoming year.
    2. Explanation of how this fellowship award will impact your career.
  3. Two to three reference letters
    1. One letter should be from current PI
    2. Other letter(s) should be from former PIs or current/former mentors.
