Billi Terresa Cowden Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Waggoner Center for Alcohol and Addiction Research is pleased to announce the call for applications for the Billi Terresa Cowden Postdoctoral Fellowship. This fellowship supports postdoctoral fellows investigating consequences of alcohol and other substance use. Selected fellows will receive 50% salary and fringe benefit support from September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2027, with the possibility of renewal for a maximum of one additional year. Awardees will also receive a $2,000 travel allowance per fiscal year.

Eligibility criteria

  • Current appointment as a Postdoctoral Fellow at UT Austin with an upcoming appointment for FY 26-27.
  • Research focused on clinical or preclinical studies related to mechanisms of drug action, neuroadaptation to repeated substance use, treatment, outcomes, or risk factors (e.g. genetic, comorbid mental illness, early life trauma, family factors, PTSD).

  2. Statement: 1-2 page document that includes:
    1. Description of your proposed research for the upcoming year
    2. Explanation of how this fellowship award will impact your career and your project
  3. Reference Letters
    1. Two to three reference letters
    2. One letter should be from current PI
    3. Other letter(s) should be from former PIs or current/former mentors.
