Congratulations to Dr. Esther Melamed and her postdoc Dr. Cole Maguire on being featured contributors in the Viewpoint publication in Nature Ecology & Evolution entitled "The past and future of mimicry research".
2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Henry Walter Bates, an English naturalist who formally introduced ‘mimicry’ as a scientifc concept. Drs. Melamed and Maguire were two of several of researchers working on mimicry across different biological systems to reflect on emerging questions in the field.
Dr. Maguire's research integrates bioinformatics and virology to investigate viral contributions to neurological disorders, with an emphasis on how molecular mimicry mechanisms trigger autoimmune responses in the nervous system.
Dr.Melamed's lab investigates the role of environmental factors, including viral infections, the gut microbiome and diet, in neurological autoimmunity.
