Congratulations to Dr. Nihal Salem, postdoc in Dayne Mayfield's lab on receiving a K99 award from the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. K99 Awards are intended to provide support for 1- 2 additional years of postdoctoral training before moving into a tenure-track position. Nihal received the award for her project that will investigate if genetic rescuing of gene networks that are known to be dysregulated in alcohol-dependent mice will reverse escalated alcohol use.
Dr. Salem’s ultimate goal is to be an independent researcher in the field of alcohol research and to develop a research program that spans genomics, bioinformatics, and functional studies linking transcriptomics to alcohol drinking phenotypes.
